i have finally verbalized that it is time to leave the organization.
the question becomes, must we be part of an organization?
The only organizing a church needs is;
what time are they getting together
who's picking up the donuts
who's doing Sunday school/ children's church
AAAAAND this is where true organization comes in;
who what where and when will the poor, elderly, homeless, hungry, addicts and abused in the entire community be cared for.
i am gonna be relaxing at uncles house, listen to music and all that sorta thing.
I went to our local Farmers Market this morning, it was great! Everything was cheap, fresh and mostly organic. It is fairly new and was my first time. I found the the deliscious marble rye bread that our favorite vegan restaurant uses. The first time I even heard of marble rye was in a Seinfield episode. It's good stuff!
Tomorrow is my favorite day of the week. I get to watch hubbie rock out on the keyboards at church. I just love the worship time. I know I'm one of the oddballs around here.
I want to start having Sunday family/friends dinner. My grandmother used to have them. I don't remember any JWs having them growing up. It is an American tradition that passed me by. Did you guys have big Sunday family friends dinners? It used to be an American tradition, that or Sunday family park pic nics.

i mean - what kind of doctrine would they teach - what sort of social programs would they support - how big?

Since I love worship, adore music, the worship service means so much to me. Any church I go to the Pastor MUST be educated in theology, self taught is ok as long there are no deviations. Deviations create cults. Calvary Chapels so far have been very consistent for me. But there are many other local churches that have much to offer.
Most churches have different services you can chose from, large and small groups, home or in a building. Once a church I went to did not have a building, we were on Maui and met on the beach. It was pretty cool. We watched sea turtles, whales and paragliders during service.
Charity and community outreach are a must. My church is an extended family. Those small home groups are wonderful. I have met many who go to them. We had one once in our home and it was the best. We used an outline DVD from Sadleback church, "The Purpose Driven Life" series for home use. It did not tell the group what to think, but had great music videos to sing with and outlined questions to get the group to open up and bond.
Any church should feel like an extended family, not a religious group

I'm a little confused about the charity work. The WT doesn't allow charity, they want all money since if you "give soup to a hungry person they will get hungry again, give a Watchtower mag and a free home Bible study and you give them the chance of eternal life" barf
Was Prince REALLY a bonafide JW when he started it? I wonder if it came into play here.
I am not happy to see any marraige end, but I don't think I am the only one who wondered how this would play out. Come in...going out in service in a Rolls etc? I'll take my chances with karma.

i notice in the watchtowers they mention that on occasion people fall into the "trap" of "independent thinking" and this is often associated with pride and a misunderstanding of god.
also just as frequently it mentions that god progressively reveals truths to his followers.

Jesus never changed from an angel, to a man, to a vaporous spirit being. He is who he always was, the Word of God.
"for it is good that the heart be established by grace" Grace does not exist in the New World JW bible.

all to often, my mind drifts to my mixed feelings for my mother.
the deep love that burned in my heart for the woman who had given me life.. the suicidal remorse i felt for bringing such guilt and reproach on her good name.. the blinding anger i felt for her never questioning her beliefs, but always questioning her son.. and so i'm left with a vacuous emotional chamber for a large element that is missing from my soul.. and when you've lost your most valuable possesion, everything else is gravy on an empty plate - pointless.. and so i hurt too, and i love my mom, but does she love me?
the unanswered question haunts my mind.. we recieve, we give, and sometimes, we just plain screw up.

Also community service is always a part of church. Calvary Chapels and other churches like them almost always have charities in their communities. It provides a great way to make a difference. There are all types of community services offered from food banks, to care packages sent overseas to active military personal. There are helping hands type ministries for shut ins, single parents, transportation, free drug rehab clinics, the list goes on and on. I needed help moving once when I was single and they came out and moved me. I needed food once and they gave me food and store coupons, no questions asked. They even have bus tickets to send people home if they find themselves in need of getting across the country. You don't have to be a memeber of the church to get help.
So you see churches are not like Kingdom Halls. Most churches are faith in action.
Anyway, now you know what my idea of church even is. I love church gatherings, but detest religion.

I gave up religion when I gave up trying to be a good little JW.
However, I found a close personal relationship with Jesus has nothing to do with religion. Although I do cherish non denomination church services. I adore music worship. My husband plays keyboards in a praise band.
The message of the Bible is not evil, is it a simple story of God's enduring love for His creations. A story of redemption and sacrifice. A Light in a sometimes very dark world.
My favorite church services are Calvary Chapel style services. Music worship is great and contemporary, very little religiousness, no dress code, no requirments. It is "come as you are".
first they told me that my mother was in a persistent vegetative state, and that we (the family) should cut off her oxygen and feeding tubes.
i told them that it was too soon to be saying that or making this diagnosis.
they had my family believing this.
ps..hoping todays surgery is a blazing success...
